messed up sleep patterns are good for writing, but bad for podcasts

For some bizarre reason, I woke up at 5AM this morning and could not get back to sleep. Well, it would be bizarre if I had not recently spent 37 hours in transit back from New Zealand. Let me begin again ...

blogs about broken backs

I was awakened this morning at 10 AM -- this is a Sunday after all -- by my good friend Jason, who, in his infinite wisdom, decided to rope me into helping him with some gardening work. As I am not the best first thing without a caffine fix, I groggily agreed and after a couple of mugs of coffee -- that were more suited to be eaten with a spoon than drank -- I staggered a few houses down to see how my legendary skills at landscaping and horticultural knowledge were going to be put to the test (my mother will laugh uproariously at that little white skill-set lie).

a sad farewell to kilgore trout

On this warm sunny morning, I scanned the news headlines to discover that author Kurt Vonnegut had passed away.

i can finally remember my own name ...

It's been two days now since I returned to Ireland -- at least I think it might have been two days ... my sense of time has been severely warped by 37 hours of constant travel and crossing 11 time zones. And it is not very surprising, considering the wacky itinerary:

  • left the hotel in Auckland at 8 AM on a Saturday morning, took off around 1:30 PM GMT +12
  • three hours of flying; hit Sidney around 2 PM, left again 2 hours later GMT +9
  • 9 hours to Bangkok; get in at midnight, just under two hours stop-over GMT +6
  • twelve hours later, hit London, just after 7 AM GMT
  • staggered into Cork airport at 11 AM; 40 minute drive home; through my front door at noon on Sunday

So, 37 hours of travel, but with an actual time difference of 26 hours.
