'There is nothing more dreadful than imagination without taste' -- von Goethe

bank holiday monday

Ahhhh ... who doesn't love a bank holiday Monday? The weekend begins with the promise of an extra day off, which my mind never entirely believes -- it thinks that it's all a vicious plot to lull into some sort of recouperative slothfulness, whereupon a ton of work will get dumped on it when it least expects it -- Sunday rolls around, and it feels like a Sunday, but then you wake up Monday ... with nothing to do.

and my daemon is ...

I read Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials a few months back, and was surprised and impressed by the bravery of both the writing and the subject matter for what are commonly described as children's books. His exploration of religion and the nature of the human soul was complex, and more than a little daring.

routine

It's been over a fortnight since I got back from New Zealand, and I'm amazed at how quickly I got back into the Routine.

The Routine is important for me, as without it, my writing becomes erratic, and I never get stuff done that I really want to do. Before Ms. K. left for London, I had a good Routine: I'd get up early -- around 6:30 AM -- and I'd write for an hour or two; I'd head to work for about 9AM; come home anywhere between 6 and 8; relax, maybe write a bit more, and then retire to bed.

The Voyage: the second in a series of short story podcasts from Worlds Abound, written by Matt Sullivan and read by Regina Kohl; this story is a tale of a voyage undertaken by two very different individuals, and how the journey changes them forever. Please email us and tell us what you think.

the voyage finally kicks off

Finally ... The Voyage is ready and uploading to the server. This one took a while to get done, and is a not-so-short story, running at over an hour; but I'm pleased with the final result, and as always, Ms. K. did an excellent job reading the tale.
