travelling exhaustion: san fran, los angeles, seattle, boston ...

I've been on the road due to work commitments for a number of days now: flew out from London on Sunday to San Francisco, from there to LA on Monday (where I flew right over the forest fires that are raging in the hills north of the city), and from there to Seattle on Wednesday. I fly out again tomorrow to hit Boston, and will be back in the big smoke of London next week. Quite the travelling lifestyle; I could do with a few more hours sleep, a lot less hotel and airport food and a tad more exercise.

San Francisco is as bohemian as ever. In the one day that I was there, I witnessed such a bizarre collection of individuals on the streets, and in such concentration it made my head spin. The most outlandish was the 'Owww!' woman, who walked slowly down the street yelling in apparent agony at the top of her voice, only to stop and suddenly recover long enough to spit out such a vitriolic stream of invective at passers by (trust me, the overuse of 'v' here is entirely justified, you should have heard her); she was wildly creative in her insults and such was their nature that I will not repeat here. The rest of the inhabitants were far less caustic; San Francisco is such a fun and relaxed place that it ranks as possibly my favourite city in the US.

LA was hot, muggy, and on fire. I got stuck in traffic jams on the freeway.

Enough said about LA.

Seattle, which also competes for the nicest city in the US, has been more sedate, with great views from the hotel of lake Washington (must remember to post photos), nestled in the wooded streets of Kirkland. Though there was work to be done, it has been a chance to recharge the batteries. And I had the greatest sushi ever last night in downtown Seattle. BEST ... SUSHI ... EVER! I cannot make that point strongly enough. I love sushi; I love Seattle.

And there's Starbucks ... so my caffeine dependency is thus sated.

Early rise to tomorrow to jet out to Boston to complete this year's US whirlwind excursion. Though it's fun, I am looking forward to my own bed.
